Description
This bug themed STEAM workshop combines wind driven design with classification and cooperative reasoning. Students construct moving insect projects and use a classification activity to examine how observable features can be used to group living things.
Children can assemble the ladybug and bumble bee wind motion designs, predict how airflow will affect movement, and change a feature to compare results. The cooperative bug activity can be used to sort examples by characteristics such as wings, color, body form, or other visible traits.
Children learn that design and science can be studied together. They investigate airflow and movement while also practicing biological classification, observation, comparison, and cooperative explanation.
